Le Méridien Suvarnabhumi, Bangkok Golf Resort & Spa opened in 2015, and I was genuinely excited about it. We are frequent visitors to Bangkok and fans of the SPG hotel group, so a brand-new Le Méridien in a convenient location near the airport sounded like an excellent addition to our travels.
We stayed twice, once shortly after the hotel opened and again the following year. On both occasions, the beautiful surroundings and impressive rooms were let down by disappointing attention to detail, particularly when it came to cleanliness and service.
I had expected to love this hotel. Instead, it became one of the most disappointing hotel experiences I could remember.
This is a look back at our two stays and why, despite the hotel’s obvious potential, we left feeling let down.
Our First Stay at Le Méridien Suvarnabhumi
We booked our first stay while the hotel was still completing some of its facilities. This had been made clear when we booked, so we weren’t particularly concerned that the club lounge would not be open during our visit. An alternative arrangement was being made in the Latitude Bar, and our Grande Club room booking also included airport transfers and laundry.
On arrival, we were shown to our room, which initially looked magnificent. It was spacious, brand new and offered wonderful views across the golf course. It seemed to have all the ingredients for a memorable stay.
However, looking more closely, we began to notice problems. Grout was missing between some of the tiles, the bathrobes weren’t clean and the windows were surprisingly dirty for a newly opened hotel.
These weren’t major structural problems, but they were the sort of details that make a difference when you’re staying at a hotel of this standard.
There were positives, too. When we called for coffee and cheekily asked whether we might have a biscuit or two to go with it, a lovely member of staff brought everything up to our room. The views were beautiful, and the room itself had real potential.

A Confusing Club Lounge Experience
Before dinner, we visited the temporary club lounge arrangement in the Latitude Bar area. The staff were pleasant and tried to help, although it was apparent that the arrangements were not entirely clear.
We were given a menu and told we could order what we liked. I checked this twice before ordering a sparkling rosé and some tapas. When we ordered another drink, however, we were told that the wine wasn’t included and that we would have to pay for what we’d already consumed.
Fortunately, this was eventually resolved, but it wasn’t the smooth experience we’d expected.
Dinner, Discounts and an Unexpected Bill
That evening, we decided to eat at the hotel’s main restaurant. An advertised 30% discount on the evening buffet caught our attention, so we decided to make it our final meal in Thailand before heading home.
The meal itself was lovely. Unfortunately, the experience afterwards was less enjoyable.
We were seated outside and, after finishing our coffees, waited around half an hour for someone to bring the bill. Eventually, having already provided our card details at check-in, we decided to take a short walk around the golf course while we waited.
We hadn’t gone far when two members of staff came running after us, calling out because we hadn’t signed the receipt. I felt thoroughly embarrassed, particularly as we’d simply been waiting for someone to return to our table.
When we checked the bill, we also discovered that the advertised discount hadn’t been applied. We were subsequently told that it was only available to guests who had purchased a discount coupon in advance. That wasn’t how we’d understood the offer advertised in the bar.
Laundry That Wasn’t Included
The laundry arrangements provided the final frustration of our first stay.
After travelling for more than a month, we were looking forward to making the journey home in clean clothes. Our room rate included laundry, according to the welcome letter we’d received on arrival, so we’d sent a dress, cardigan, shirt and jeans to be cleaned.
At check-out, we were presented with a bill of more than £30 for the laundry.
We questioned the charge and explained that laundry was included in our booking. After several members of staff had reviewed the details, we were still charged. We were also told that laundry needed to be submitted before midday, despite that being later than the hotel’s stated check-in time.
By this point, we were tired of questioning unexpected charges and trying to resolve misunderstandings.
Despite the beautiful room and the helpful staff we’d encountered along the way, we left feeling stressed and embarrassed. I remember thinking that the hotel seemed determined to find ways to charge us extra, rather than make our stay an enjoyable one.
After a decade of frequent travel, I couldn’t remember another hotel stay that had left me quite so relieved to leave.
I decided I wouldn’t return.
Giving Le Méridien Suvarnabhumi a Second Chance
Never say never.
The hotel had a convenient location for our travels, and I still thought the property itself was beautiful. The following year, while sitting at Heathrow Airport and trying to work out our plans for arriving in Bangkok I was persuaded to give it another chance.
Surely, after another year of operation, the hotel would have had time to iron out its teething problems?
After around 30 hours of travelling, we arrived in Bangkok. We’d initially stayed at Le Méridien Bangkok in the city centre, and I remember wishing we’d chosen somewhere closer to the airport we needed the following day. The taxi journey to the airport hotel proved less straightforward than we’d hoped, adding to our travel fatigue.
Nevertheless, our arrival at Le Méridien Suvarnabhumi was pleasant. The receptionist helped with our room arrangements, and we were offered a welcome drink as Gold members, which was a nice touch.
I had decided to put our previous experience behind me and start afresh.
Unfortunately, things soon took a familiar turn.
The Room Wasn’t Clean
As we were escorted to our room, I initially failed to notice the problems. D however, spotted them straight away.
Although the receptionist had checked that the room was ready before we entered, there was rubbish, crumbs, old receipts and a large piece of processed cheese left behind. The bath was dirty, and the windows were smeared.
We actually laughed. Having returned in the hope of a better experience, it seemed almost unbelievable that we’d encountered such obvious cleanliness problems again.
The corridors weren’t much better, with clumps of hair visible on the floor. We called reception, and after some initial confusion, the staff understood the problem and offered to move us.
We were upgraded to a Grande Suite, which was certainly impressive in terms of space and layout. It had a generous living area and lovely views across the golf course.
However, even the replacement room wasn’t as clean as we’d expect from a hotel of this calibre.
It was frustrating because the hotel really did have so much going for it. The rooms were spacious, the architecture was attractive and the setting was lovely. It simply wasn’t delivering the standard of housekeeping that should have accompanied them.
Drinks at Latitude Bar and Dinner at Favola
After such a long journey, we were ready for a relaxing drink.
Our complimentary drinks experience at Latitude Bar involved a succession of menus being exchanged, followed by some confusion over our voucher. Eventually, we settled in with our drinks and enjoyed a pleasant moment to unwind.
Dinner at Favola was a highlight. We had a wonderful meal, and the food and service were excellent. It was a reminder that the hotel was capable of delivering a genuinely enjoyable experience, even when other parts of our stay had fallen short.
Breakfast Was Another Disappointment
The following morning, we went down for breakfast.
We knew that breakfast wasn’t included in our room rate, but four members of staff checked our room number before we were finally told this. It was a minor inconvenience in itself, but it added to our growing sense that communication between the hotel’s staff wasn’t working as well as it should.
The bigger disappointment was the breakfast itself. We paid around £35 and were served a cooked breakfast that was stone cold. Finding a clean plate wasn’t straightforward, either.
Had we known what to expect, we wouldn’t have spent the time or money on breakfast at the hotel.
Did the Hotel Respond to Our Feedback?
Following our second stay, I wrote to the hotel management to explain what had happened on both visits.
The response offered an upgrade to a suite on a future stay. While I appreciated the gesture, it wasn’t really what I had hoped for. My concerns weren’t about the size of our room; they were about cleanliness, inconsistent service and the repeated problems we’d experienced.
I also subsequently requested a refund for the breakfast we’d paid for. This was agreed, but six months later, the money still hadn’t arrived.
We had used points we’d accumulated over the year to treat ourselves to this stay. That made the experience particularly disappointing: we’d saved those points to enjoy a special hotel during our travels, not to spend our time chasing charges and raising complaints.
A few days later, we stayed at Le Méridien Chiang Rai Resort, which we loved. That experience reinforced my feeling that the problem wasn’t with the brand as a whole, but with our experience at this particular property.
Would I Stay at Le Méridien Suvarnabhumi Again?
Our two stays left me with mixed feelings about Le Méridien Suvarnabhumi.
The hotel itself was beautiful, with spacious rooms, attractive grounds, views across the golf course and facilities that promised a relaxing stay. Its location could also be useful for travellers needing to stay near Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport.
There were good moments, too. We encountered friendly and helpful staff, enjoyed a lovely dinner at Favola and appreciated the generous size of our suite.
But the repeated cleanliness problems were impossible to overlook. Combined with the confusion over drinks, laundry charges and breakfast, they made both visits far more stressful than they should have been.
These stays took place in the hotel’s early years, so I can’t say whether the same issues persist today. I can only share what we experienced at the time.
For us, the disappointment was all the greater because we’d arrived with high expectations. I wanted to love this hotel, and I gave it a second chance because I genuinely hoped things would have improved.
Sadly, our second visit left us feeling much as the first had.
Bangkok has some wonderful hotels. The Athenee Hotel is one we’ve returned to over the years, while The St. Regis Bangkok remains a particularly memorable luxury stay for us. Both have given us reasons to look forward to returning.
Le Méridien Suvarnabhumi, despite its beautiful setting and considerable potential, didn’t leave us with the same feeling.
Sometimes, a gorgeous room and a great view simply aren’t enough.
That said, the hotel has since reopened under the Hilton brand, and is known now as Hilton Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Golf Resort & Spa. New ownership and a passage of time may have worked wonders for this beautiful property, and its convenience can’t be overlooked if we return to Bangkok in the future. So, I’d be tempted to give it a third chance!

How Much Does Hilton Suvarnabhumi Golf Resort & Spa cost?
We stayed at the hotel known as Méridien Suvarnabhumi Bangkok back in 2015 and 2016 so prices have most likely changed since then
I checked the cost of a one night stay in January 2027 (on 16th October 2026) at the Hilton Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Golf Resort & Spa and it’s around £113 per night.
Prices will obviously vary depending on the room, dates and board basis, and whether you choose to have any airport transfers or parking, so it’s worth checking both the hotel and booking sites before booking.
You can check current prices and availability through the hotel’s official website or compare deals on Booking.com.
