It’s incredibly rare for us to spend more than a night or two in a hotel. We love to explore the world, so three night counts as a long stay for us. It’s also unusual for us to pre-book where we’re staying. Even the first night of our honeymoon was unplanned. But back in 2024, we set off travelling for two months, and as part of our trip we decided to stay put for a while at the incredible InterContinental Khao Yai Resort in Thailand.
Our trip to this incredible resort lasted nine nights. The initial six that we had booked, and an extension of 3 days because it was so bloody epic.
For us, The InterContinental Khao Yai Resort is the epitome of luxury.
Here’s the story of our stay. Our longest hotel stay, ever.

This beautiful resort was designed by Bill Bensley, and the style of the hotel takes inspiration from the age of train travel. The rooms resemble old train carriages, and there’s a dark art deco style throughout the resort.
The Classic Lake View Room
For the first few days of our stay, we stayed in a lake view room.
Our bedroom, with king sized comfortable bed, walk in shower and bathroom with Byredo toiletries, and seating area. The room had a stocked mini bar, tea and coffee making facilities (with local ground coffee), and plenty of space, and we enjoyed sitting out private terrace with beautiful views of the grounds and wider National Park.

The Premium Pool Lake View
After a few nights in the deluxe room, we moved to the most beautiful lake view room with its own pool. Easily the favourite room which we experienced during our stay. It’s the first time we’ve ever stayed in a room with a private pool. It felt incredibly luxurious. Much like the classic room above in size, comfort and amenities, but with the benefit of a cool dip from the room.

The Heritage Railway 1 Bedroom Suite
We didn’t book the heritage suite, but the hotel kindly upgraded our stay for a couple of nights, so we could experience this room style too.
If I’m honest, while beautiful, and remote, we quite enjoyed having the private pool and lake views, so it didn’t feel like an upgrade. But the room is just as stunning as the others, and staying in an old railway carriage has a certain type of history to it. The rooms have an outdoor victorian bathtub, but its not something I particularly fancied doing.
Breakfast at InterContinental Khao Yai Resort
As we booked using points our stay did not include breakfast, but we enjoyed it most days in the restaurant or via room service.
It was easy to spend a couple of hours. We often sat outside on the terrace. We drank far too much coffee. There were plenty of options for food – a typical huge continental buffet, various cooking stations for Thai and Western cuisine, and of course, eggs however you wanted them.
Food & Drink at InterContinental Khao Yai Resort
The food is absolutely wonderful. We ate at the resort our entire stay, sometimes with room service, sometimes at Somying’s Kitchen, the main hotel restaurant. There’s a mix of Thai and Western food. There’s also French cuisine from the Poirot restaurant.
The Resort
Apart from an adventurous walk to the local shop and market one day (which resulted in a kind local giving us a lift back as the roads a bit hairy) we had no reason to leave the resort. Set in the most beautiful of green spaces, there’s plenty to explore.
Every day, we walked around the lakes, stopping to enjoy the wildlife, the quiet and tranquillity that make this place so unique. We rarely saw another person. It felt remote. Some days we borrowed bicycles and cycled around some of the five lakes and botanical gardens.
We used the fitness suite, with its gorgeous lake views, to balance out some of the indulgence.
Theres a beautiful pool, and the attached poolside bar, Terminus. It was glorious, even when the heavens opened and there was a storm. It cooled us down.
The Papillion Bar was our favourite – an old converted train carriage turned into a jazz bar. Next to this, Poirot restaurant, which is now listed in the MICHELIN Guide Thailand 2026, and the old tea carriage.
One night there was an outdoor cinema. Complete with popcorn.
And there’s a spa, though we didn’t use it this time, that the one thing on the list to experience when we return.
There really is no need to leave.

How Much Does The Intercontinental Khao Yai Cost?
We stayed at The InterContinental Khao Yai Resort in February 2024 and redeemed our IHG One Rewards points for the stay. Checking prices for a one-night stay tonight (10/10/26) a deluxe room is just under 15000 Thai baht (or approximately £335). This includes breakfast and a complimentary mini bar.
Not the cheapest of hotels, especially in Thailand. But the hotel design, amenities, and quiet location are absolutely worth it. And if you have reward points to spend, this hotel is well worth the splurge (56,000 points today)
Prices will obviously vary depending on the room, dates and board basis, so it’s worth checking both the hotel and booking sites before arranging your stay.
You can check current prices and availability through the hotel’s official website or compare deals on Booking.com.
Would We Stay at The Intercontinental Khao Yai Again?
Without a shadow of doubt. This resort is one of the very best we have stayed in. I would absolutely love to return. I’d choose the lake view pool room. And I’d choose to stay for at least a week once more.
